WEEKEND IN DAYTON

Craft Beer section at the Liquor and Wine Warehouse in Dayton, Ohio.

I spent the weekend with my lady on a mini vacation in Dayton, Ohio and what a relaxing time we had. On Saturday we traveled down to the Findley Market in Cincinnati, Ohio and picked up some delicious sausages, fruits and vegetables to enjoy on our weekend. we made a stop at the Liquor and Wine Warehouse in Dayton to peruse their craft beers and wines. Came back to the condo where we watched the Buckeyes beat up on Cal and grilled out and drank beer while watching the fire. Danielle's friend from college came over and we all had a great time looking at professional photographs of her cat and talking about the state of the world.

First Yuengling in Ohio

Hooters in Hilliard, Ohio
Draft Yuengling
Traveled north into Hilliard Ohio to the Hooters to watch the early football games and track my fantasy football teams. They had the last car show of the season so I had the chance to see some beautiful classic cars not to mention I had my first Yuengling in Ohio that wasn't smuggled in across the border by a friend or myself! I dined some raw oysters and some hot wings while watching the early games.

Mopar means More Power!

Moose Lodge 2236
After I left the Hooters I stopped by the local Moose Lodge in Hilliard where they were having a horseshoe tournament and also serving Yuengling (bottled not draft this time) and enjoyed their hospitality.

Smoked Meats and BBQ Festival

I spent Saturday on a road trip that began in Nelsonville, Ohio at the 15th Annual Smoked Meats and BBQ Festival where I participated as a judge for the peoples choice awards. So much pulled pork, live music and a beer garden. I was amazed by the little show and am marking my calender for the third Friday and Saturday of October in 2012 and will be spending more time there. After sampling 16 different servings of pulled pork and voting on my variety I headed to Lake Hope State Park where I entered the Zaleski State Forest and hiked back to one of the most haunted places in Ohio, Moonville. It is the world longest brick train tunnel and there are many haunted stories that have a lot to do with the town of Moonville that is just southwest of the tunnel and was abandoned after a smallpox epidemic killed most of it's residents.
From Moonville I headed into the town of Wellston Ohio where, when in this region, I treated myself to a glass bottle of Ski-Pop before heading down to the Leo Petroglyphs 8 miles east of Jackson, Ohio. The Petroglyphs are pictures rubbed into stone by ancient native people and there are depicted many images of birds, fish, humans and many that are unknown. I enjoyed looking at them and attempting to contemplate exactly what they were trying to depict.
Heading back from the ancient site I decided to watch the Ohio State Buckeyes compete against the Fighting Illini of Illinois at Ted and Jomama's Bar in Tarlton, Ohio. This is a local establishment that appears to be fading out in our country, it isn't a sports bar or a club, it is just a bar. They don't serve liquor, just beer, and I was a bit surprised to be offered a flask of bourbon as it was passed around the table. Cheers erupted and high-fives were exchanged when the Buckeyes defeated the Illini and won the coveted Illi-Buck trophy. After I finished my bucket of beer I headed to Circleville to have a drink with some friends at the Moose Lodge. A nice way to unwind and relax, after another bucket of beer and a few shots of Jaegermeister, I went to Sonic for a cheeseburger and onion rings, stopped at the redbox and picked up Inception and went home. I only got about 10 minutes of unfocused attention on the movie before I drifted off to sleep.
